One statement

I was meeting someone for coffee recently. Decent coffee. Good space for conversation.

You know what I remember the most? The comment I got. There was something the barista said that stuck with me. “Let me know if I can get you anything else.”

It wasn’t an add-on sale statement. It was an “I want to make you feel important” statement. It was really ordinary.

The barista noticed me, the customer, and took time to connect. I’m not sure you can script that. It takes a real person to care about it. Connecting and noticing. Do you notice people?

  • Despite what some people might think about my employer, Life Time Fitness, this is actually something we take VERY seriously. The first person a member sees when they walk into the club is the card-swiper. For that position, we hire people who truly are kind and have a passion for what our mission is. Then they carry that message onto our members, and from the feedback we get, members recognize that. Sometimes all it takes is a simple "Have a nice workout"!
  • Bob,
Being a former member, I can testify! Some businesses (just some) really get this human connection. Everyone wants to be be noticed.
    Cheers,
    Tim
