Don’t Just Google It

I was listening to the radio recently and the DJ was talking about asking her colleague for feedback on a movie instead of just checking Google. She emphasized the value of the human process.

Everyday we have questions and problems, right? How many times do you just Google it? I know that’s where I turn sometimes.

But what about our networks? The thing about the Human Process vs the Google Process is that you get more depth, insight, and that connection of helping each other. Nothing wrong with Googling for an answer. I just wonder what we miss out on sometimes in our rush for an immediate answer.

So, what do you think? How about we try the Human Process this week at least 3 times instead of a search engine?
Are you with me?

  • This is an interesting proposition. A quick look at my google search history shows that I average over 60 searches per day, so I think I can afford to push just 5% of those over to an HP search. However, does the Human Process apply to twitter (or other social media sites)? It is restricted to phone calls? Or narrowed to "in person" only? At first I thought they are all the same, but the more I think about it, the more I feel the response I get will be different from each network. Your thoughts?
  • Jason,
I was thinking phone or in person originally. At least hearing someone's voice. But you bring up a good point. The HP can include our digital relationships and networks. From my experience they are powerful answer/solution/idea engines. I will have to try out one question this week on each network (phone, face-to-face, and digital) and compare. Let me know what you find too!
    Cheers,
    Tim
